Video Transcription of interview with Anna, Age 8
How long have you been dancing?
About six years.
How has your experience progressed?
Good.
How does it feel to be more experienced?
Good.
What does it feel like to walk on stage?
It's a little bit nervous at first because there's a lot of people watching, but then when you start dancing, it feels more comfortable.
What is your favorite dance?
Probably my hip hop or my jazz dance.
How do you feel when you're dancing, your hip hop or your jazz dance?
I feel very happy and excited.
When you are in the middle of a dance, what is going through your head?
I'm trying to count and remember what it is, because everyone is kind of watching the middle and the front person.
Are you normally up front?
Sometimes not all the time.
How often do you practice?
I practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
How is practice different than when you're on stage?
When you're practicing, sometimes you're learning the dance instead of performing it, and sometimes you're just walking through it.
Do you ever have an off day?
For certain holidays. Such as Halloween, Christmas break and stuff like that.
Let me rephrase that. Do you ever have a bad day?
Um, yeah, sometimes.
What do you do to shift your mind back?
I think of stuff that I really like doing. Dancing, playing soccer and basketball.
What advice would you give a dancer who is just starting out or afraid to try?
Try not to be as nervous, because sometimes it's really fun when you do stuff and you just need to remember to point your toes and straighten your legs.
What was your favorite part of this whole experience?
Probably taking the pictures.
