Video Transcription for Audrey, Age 10

How long have you been dancing?

For eight years.

How has your experience progressed?

I’d say a lot.

How does it feel to be more experienced now?

Cool. Because now I can do more stuff and be myself.

What does it feel like to walk on stage?

At first you kind of feel like you're nervous. But then when you actually get on there and start dancing, you kind of get to be yourself again.

What is your favorite dance?

Probably my duo.

What type of dance is that?

Contemporary.

How do you feel when you're dancing it?

I feel like I'm just there and not worrying about anything else.

When you are in the middle of a dance, what is going through your mind?

Just to be confident with your dance moves and try to know what you're doing.

How often do you practice?

Well, I practice Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

How is practice different than when you are on stage?

It's different because when you're practicing, you're getting corrections and going over some steps. So then you know it for the stage.

Do you ever have an off day?

Well, on Tuesdays, my mom works, so my dad has to do my bun. And sometimes in dance, it's like, not like...pretty.

What advice would you give to a dancer who is just starting out or afraid to start?

If you really be yourself and you really pay attention, then you can really do more things and get better.

What was your favorite part of this whole experience?

Doing makeup and hair and taking pictures on my pointe shoes?
